Next YarraBUG Meeting
The next YarraBUG meeting will be on 20th June. Our meetings are held 7.30pm every 3rd Tuesday, at Suede Bar, 284 Smith Street, Collingwood. All welcome for a friendly chat, meal and beverage.

Ride Poll on our website
We’re placed a very simple poll in righthand margin of YarraBUG’s website about what rides people may want. It’s but no means a *scientific method* but may give us some interesting results! If you have further suggestions, please email us: yarrabug-owner@yahoogroups.com

Pigdon/Canning Street Roundabout

We’re finalising the YarraBUG submission to go to Yarra Council. Our recommendations include raised entry treatments and possible additions to street lighting. If you have experienced a incident at this intersection, we would like to hear form you. Simply send a paragraph describing your experience and we’ll add these to the submission. If you would like to see further details what we’re suggesting to make this roundabout safer, simply contact us for details.

Yarra Council Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting
6.30pm Wednesday 21 June, Richmond Town Hall. If you would like to attend, or have agenda items, please contact Richard Smithers, Transport Coordinator, Email: smitherr@yarracity.vic.gov.au, Phone: 9205 5739

Wheels of Justice: Get cycling on the agenda: TAC Road Safety site
This campaign is literally just asking for cycling information to be collated more efficiently by Fed & State organisations, and could potentially have a positive effect on other states to also effectively take cycling more seriously than the current fragmented approach. If you believe this initiative is required, please refer to the points made in our draft letter and feel free to pass on this information to your cycling contacts.

DarebinBUG 5th Birthday Celebrations
Preston Shire Hall, Cramer Street, Preston, Thursday 15 June at 7.30pm. All happy cyclists are invited to join in the fun of Darebin BUG’s 5th birthday event. Apart from fabulous speakers, Hilary Harper (774’s Traffic Reporter who rides to work) and Tony Barton (from VicRoads about bike counts), there will also be a raffle and no doubt more. There’s an A4 poster here for you to promote the cause, or go direct to the BUG’s website.
Hope to see you there.

Cycling in the News
From Melbourne: Bike craze hits top gear (June 6, 2006)

It may be the winter of discontent for many Melburnians, but for those who travel on two wheels it’s anything but. The city is in the middle of a cycling boom as commuters take to two wheels for their daily journey to work, and with the State Government planning to spend $112 million on bicycling and pedestrian programs in the next decade.

Hey, didn’t two erstwhile cyclists from Boroondara & YarraBUG’s from prove commuting to work a very *worthly exercise* last year? YarraBUG: We are the Champions

From the UK: Revolution! Britain embraces the bicycle (June 7, 2006)

Britain is in the grip of a cycling revolution as clogged roads, concern at global warming caused by air pollution and the quest for improved fitness persuade millions to opt for pedal power.
