YarraBUG Bike Bus
Are you interested in helping YarraBUG start a Bike Bus for commuters? MassBUG in Sydney has been conducting a sucessful Bike Bus from Marrickville/Newtown to the city, see below,

A bike bus is a small group of people who ride to work together each day, for sociability and safety. We ride legally, taking a lane and riding two-abreast. We ride quieter back streets for most of the way, until we reach the CBD. The bike bus has a set route and timetable where it picks up and drops off “passengers”. We ride at a social pace (average 15kph) so we can chat.

A inner northern suburbs Bike Bus would be fantastic for existing commuters, those returning to cycling and cycling newbies. Do you have an existing commute you would like to share with others? We have further information on Buddying Tips and potential routes if you’re interested in in either developing and assisting with a proposed bike bus. Please contact Chris: 0407 825 467, yarrabug@yahoo.com.au

Bicycle Victoria’s new Ride2School program
Is your school keen to become more bike friendly? Please complete this BV registration survey. BV are currently trialling the program in three ‘model’ schools before rolling out the program statewide and will also be giving hands-on assistance to 12 ‘coach’ schools in disadvantaged areas. BV want to hear from teachers, parents and students who are interested in active transport. The 25 quesions in this survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

RACV Road Safety: Redspot Survey
RACV are having their redspot survey again for 2006. Although the survey is predominately aimed at RACV membership, there’s plenty of *opportunity* for your remarks. (varying btw 80 - 100 or 500 characters).

Thinking on Two Wheels: 3rd International Cycling Conference
The 3rd Thinking on Two Wheels International Cycling Conference will be held in Adelaide, Australia on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 January 2007. The conference will be hosted by UniSA which is at the forefront of conducting research, and promoting debate and discussion on cycling issues concerned with health, recreation, community, engineering and sustainable transport.

Cycling in the news
There’s been recent discussion in the media about how cyclists behave on the roads and shared paths. This article from the UK is a very fair minded appraisal of commuter tales that is also very revelant here too. In the comments to this article, there’s a reference to John Franklin’s Cyclecraft, which can be obtained at a couple of good libraries, book shops & on Amazon.

Cycle warriors: Neil Hallows found hidden world of cycling wars

A near miss in the London bomb attacks last year turned a commuter off the Tube and onto a bike. It was a 12-month initiation into a confrontational world of urban cycling.
