First of all - a cheery seasons greeting to you all and sincerely hope Santa brings you a bike or related componentry, and you have a enjoyable & peaceful time during the break.
Now - here’s some much belated YarraBUG news, sorry for the delay, but as many of you would realise it’s a particularly frantic time of the year.
Also, YarraBUG has a new email address: enquiries@yarrabug.org. Don’t worry, the yahoo email is still being used, but it did seem a bit silly not to have a matching email address when we had the domain name for the BUG!
YarraBUG Meeting
Our first YarraBUG meeting for 2007 will be on Tuesday, 20th February, at Suede Bar, 284 Smith Street, Collingwood. 2007 is shaping up to be a big year for YarraBUG, so feel free to contribute your ideas and skills to the growth of your local BUG. Tell us what you’re interested in developing with YarraBUG, be it organising social rides, campaigning and advocacy, helping with admin, website maintenance or anything else you can think of!
YarraBUG Membership
We’re currently finalising the bank account details for the BUG, so in the new year you will be able to make a simple direct payment for membership, instead of mucking around with money orders and cheques. Full details in early January, with codes and details, so membership payments will be more straight forward & hassle free. Stay tuned!
Pigdon & Canning Street roundabout - feedback wanted
Earlier this year YarraBUG made a detailed submission to Yarra City Council regarding issues with the Canning and Pigdon roundabout. What’s your thoughts on the roundabout? Do you use it frequently? Are the existing treatments provided by council adequate? Do you feel safe riding through this area or do you prefer to ride an alternative route? Please let us
know what you think, as the council are determining whether further action can be taken in the future.
Email: enquiries@yarrabug.org or drop a line or two to Yarra Council as well: info@yarracity.vic.gov.au
Sustainable Living Festival
It’s time to plan again for another pan-galactic shared BUG marquee, this time at the Sustainable Living Festival in February 2007. This will be a great event for promoting BUG’s - with an estimated 100,000 visitors over the weekend. This time we’ll be sharing a mega stall with the Cycling Promotion Fund, who have kindly paid for the space with us. If you can spare a few hours on the marquee and helping to *promote* YarraBUG, please contact us: email: enquiries@yarrabug.org
Celebrate Yarra! Festival - Sunday 18 February 2007
If the Sustainable Living Festival isn’t enough, YarraBUG has also been invited along to the Celebrate Yarra! Festival. The City of Yarra’s annual Celebrate Yarra! Festival is a fabulous community celebration which will be held on Sunday 18 February 2007 between 11am and 6pm in the picturesque surrounds of the Edinburgh Gardens, North Fitzroy. We’ve been invited to have a stall and hopefully look after the bike parking - so it looks like we’ll be needing extra help on this weekend! Can you help out? Please let us know!
Cycling on the telly
There’s plenty of cycling on the telly over the summer months, with the return of Cycling Central on SBS, and not forgetting local cycling stuff on Sooty Park, 8pm, Wednesday nights on Channel 31.

A new bike for Christmas can be the ideal gift for anyone from toddlers to grandparents, and much more fun than trying to stick to a diet for the next few weeks.
