[publictransport] Ban only applies in peak direction

DOI claim ( to me) that the extended peak now means they need the hours
4-7pm, to accommodate passenger demand, they still reckon they will have
passengers left on platforms, but didn't comment when I said that would be
as a result of non-arriving or cancelled services by the operators which has
also been the increasing trend along with their claim of increased
passengers ( up by 20%)...

in fact , its obvious, if you remove services you are going to increase
passengers on remaining services by a massive amount, so their stats on
passenger increase models still need some dissection and (...ahemmm
...critical analysis)

I have also written to Minister to issue passes or permits to anyone in a
necessitous situation until this things sorts itself out and reason
prevails, as there are plenty who now cannot get to work, must spend food
money on extra transport needs and may even have to leave their jobs. Not a
good situation!

I and others will always take a bicycle on to all trains, it may be a badge
but it will still be a bicycle.

Hmm, the "arrive at 9am" clause actually means the train I use is OK,
because I don't think it reaches the city until 9:05.

But departing between 4 and 7 seems overkill. I used to take my bike on
trains home from the city at around 7pm ~10 years ago when at uni, there was
never a shortage of space - have things really changed that much?

More to the point - are there any hands up yet for who would take part? And
what's the best way to get the message out?

Many reports of the bike ban have not made clear that it only applies to
those travelling with the peak flow. This is what the Connex web site
actually says:

'Bicycles will not be permitted on services travelling through Zone 1 that
arrive in Melbourne between 7.00 am and 9.00 am and depart Melbourne between
4.00 pm and 7.00 pm from Tuesday, 1 January 2008.'

What this doesn't spell out is that it only applies on week days which I
assume is the case. This needs to be clarified as many recreational riders
use the trains on weekends.

So if you want to choose a time for a group to contravene the ban I'd
suggest that travelling out of the city between 4 and 4.30pm would be a good
time. My experience is that this is not a particularly busy time and I don't
know why they started the ban so early.
