[publictransport] ban on bikes wish list for Geelong V/line

Hi All,

I spoke to Peter (female) from Lynn Kosky's office again today as V/Line
customer service still think the bike ban will commence on V/Line come 1st
Feb 08.

Peter said that V/Line Management had definitely been told this morning that
bikes will continue to be allowed pending the outcome of the current review.

She again double checked this with Raoul Wainwright, the Senior Ministerial
Advisor (I guess for Lynne Kosky) and she said to quote his name if anyone
disputes this point during the review period. A hard copy email might be
better!

The above is also equally valid for Connex, so the status quo remains - ie
bikes are discouraged but no action will be taken during the bike ban review
if you choose to take your bike on peak trains.

I pressed her about a date for submissions to DOI for the bike ban review,
and she said there wasn't a cut off date per se - any
objections/letters/emails they received were being passed onto DOI for
consideration. But obviously the sooner the better to make sure it's
considered before a decision is made. She was sure anything submitted this
week would make the review.

So now is definitely still a good time to have your say. She also said all
letters/emails will get responses.

Some good news, my local member of Parliament left a very supportive message
on my home answering machine saying she had received lots of support for
bikes on the trains (V/Line) and she would be supporting that bikes can
still be taken on the peak trains. (Message passed on by my wife so still
need to listen to the message in detail). She has a meeting with Lynne Kosky
on Friday about the issue :). So writing letters/contacting the media does
appear to be working :P

There also seems to be some new padlocks on the bike lockers at St Albans
Station - maybe Connex have been 'motivated' to fix the lockers that
couldn't be used due to lost keys!

The following is the link to the Advocate (Fairfax local rag) for an article
on the ban last week. Our picture made it to the front page which was
fabulous exposure :P
