Highwheels and Tweed Rides with Dan Bolwell<\/a>: Val and Faith take to the airwaves this morning with studio guest\u00a0Dan Bolwell<\/a>, a penny farthing builder and organiser of the\u00a0Melbourne Tweed Ride<\/a>. Val’s dulcet tones share a quote from Gurdon S Leete before we all share our bicycle moments, including an appreciation of petrichor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We race through some items of local news including: a detour for the La Trobe Street bike lane<\/a> users over the coming month, City of Melbourne’s plans for Exhibition St and their Draft Transport Strategy requiring your input<\/a>, and a recent article with some curious claims<\/a> about the causes of cycling deaths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talk turns to Penny Farthing’s and Dan takes us through how he developed a passion for the machines, the different types of customers wanting a custom built highwheel, the ways in which they are ridden and the ways in which the technology lives on today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We finish with a reminder that the Melbourne Tweed Ride is coming up this weekend Sunday May 19th<\/a> should you be looking for an opportunity to dress up and go for a ride! We didn’t have enough time to mention them but also coming up are; Bike Melbourne meeting on Tuesday 14th<\/a> to work on ways to be constructively involved in the City Of Melbourne’s planned changes for cyclists, consultation for LXRA’s Moreland Skyrail project<\/a> and an opportunity to make inut on cyclists needs, and Melburn Roobaix<\/a> tickets on sale. <\/p>\n
