From Yarra Council: “Share your experiences and ideas to help us make Coppin Street in Richmond safer and more liveable for everyone. We want to make walking, riding and scooting on Coppin Street easier for people of all ages and abilities”
- Seeking community feedback: Monday 18 November to Monday 16 December 2024
- Coppin Street, Richmond – Intersection upgrade pilot. A 12-month intersection upgrade pilot will be taking place on Coppin Street at the intersections of Swan Street and Bridge Road in Richmond.
“Our commitment in the Yarra Transport Strategy 2022-32 is to deliver a network of safe, attractive and connected bike routes with better streets for everyone to use as part of the New Deal for Cycling program.
Last year we completed upgrade pilots on Coppin Street at the intersections with Bridge Road and Swan Street to test ideas and gather community feedback. During this period there were no crashes reported, people told us that they felt safer and there was a big increase in people cycling along Coppin Street.
Now we need your feedback to help us design safer transport infrastructure for the rest of Coppin Street between Highett Street and Barkly Avenue
The City of Yarra is committed to making walking, cycling and scooting safer and more accessible.
Last year we completed upgrade pilots on Coppin Street at the intersections of Bridge Road and Swan Street to test some ideas and gather data and community feedback. Some of the key findings of the study included:
- The intersection changes made people safer. There were no crashes reported during this period and people said that they felt safer.
- There was a big increase in people cycling along Coppin Street, including:
- 287% increase in northbound cyclist volumes on Coppin Street south of Bridge Road
- 99% increase in southbound cyclist volumes on Coppin Street north of Swan Street
- 91% increase in southbound cyclist volumes on Coppin Street south of Swan Street.
Council has since developed detailed designs, and the Victorian Government has provided support (in principle) for upgrading the two intersections.
We’re now seeking feedback to inform the design for the rest of Coppin Street between Highett Street and Barkly Avenue to create safer streets and easier connections for people cycling, walking and other road users.
Tell us what you think!
We want to understand your experiences travelling on Coppin Street, between Highett Street and Barkly Avenue in Richmond, please tell us by jumping onto the Your Say Yarra page and drop a pin on the map to answer the following questions:

- How do you think we can improve Coppin Street to make it safer and more liveable for everyone?
Have your say here before the consultation closes at 9am Monday 16 December 2024.
