Just in time for Christmas, the Walmer Street Bridge has reopened after an lengthly closure as the north and south land bridges were reconstructured. However, the original narrow bridge remains in-situ as it was heritage listed in 2021, despite calls to the-then planning minister to call it in. Despite a community-led campaign since 2016, a 3000+ signature petition and significant advocacy from Boroondara and Yarra Councils, a new river crossing is still required in the area.
